Dear CBI Members and Partners,
This handbook was commissioned by the FCDO as complementary research to the prosperity programming’s Global Future Cities Programme (GFCP). The prosperity programming is a major UK Government initiative announced in 2015. The Fund contributes significantly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implementation of the New Urban Agenda. It is guided by the UK Aid Strategy with the objective of helping promote growth and prosperity in developing middle-income countries.
The prosperity programming offers great opportunities for the creation of mutually beneficial partnerships, and for the growth of business and trade relationships. In the past, the GFCP has been involved in programming in Ho Chi Minh City to help improve public transportation in the rapidly growing city through developing an integrated ticketing system for public transport. GFCP also played a role in the mitigation of floods in Ho Chi Minh City, by developing a Geographical Information System for the drainage system in the city.
FCDO and GFCP, through their targeted interventions, are creating business opportunities in Vietnam for UK exporters who are worldwide recognised leaders in urban innovation. These interventions in technical support and institutional capacity should be enabling factors to allow the easy market entry of UK service providers in the market.
As the British Ambassador to Vietnam, Gareth Ward mentioned in his foreword:
“I trust you will find this resource valuable in providing innovative ideas for building a stronger and more sustainable policy environment for urban growth. This is more important now than ever before.”

Topic: Vietnam's Thriving E-Commerce Market
Registration Link: EuroCham Vietnam Webinar
Hosts: EuroCham Vietnam & SE ASIA IP SME Helpdesk
Detail:
EuroCham Vietnam and the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk invite you to join this live and interactive webinar to explore the recent rapid, growth of Vietnam's E-commerce market. The General Department of Market Surveillance (GDMS) predicts the annual growth rate of Vietnam's E-commerce in 2015-2025 to be 43 per cent.
The webinar will examine how the retail sector has shaped the E-commerce market and created new behaviour for shoppers' attitudes. In this context, businesses have to face multiple challenges due to the constantly moving sector and our speakers will share some practical recommendations from a business and legal perspective to safely navigate the E-commerce environment.
While E-commerce offers plenty of opportunities, we should keep in mind that online counterfeiting presents one of the main risks when selling and buying online. Last year, GDMS checked more than 5,000 cases and settled about 4,500 violations, distributing fines of VND30 billion ($1.3 million) in total. Thanks to the new E-commerce draft decree, Vietnam is expected to enhance the legal framework for E-commerce activities which will also ensure a safer environment from an IP standpoint for all players.
Join our outstanding speakers to discover the latest trends and challenges of Vietnam's e-commerce ecosystem.
Our sincere thanks to Eurocham Vietnam and the SE Asia IP SME Helpdesk for kindly sharing the event information.

DHL eCommerce, a division of the world's leading logistics company, Deutsche Post DHL Group, has launched its nationwide domestic delivery operations in Vietnam.
The domestic delivery network will offer a high quality delivery service across Vietnam and a range of services tailored for the booming e-commerce industry, helping small, medium and large e-tailers and marketplaces increase their share amidst the rapidly growing Vietnam e-commerce segment.
"The Vietnamese e-commerce market represents a huge and relatively untapped potential for local retailers, e-tailers and marketplaces: in 2016, total e-commerce spending hit US$1 billion despite barely over 50% of the population being online, " said Charles Brewer, CEO, DHL eCommerce. "With e-commerce spending expected to grow at around 23% per year between now and 2020, local e-tailers need scalable, high-quality logistics solutions with nationwide coverage more than ever before."

Two CBI member Atkins-designed projects were under the spotlight at the International Property Awards 2017. The supertall Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City won "best residential high-rise architecture Vietnam” and the Vinhomes metropolis won “Best Residential High-rise Development Vietnam”.
Both projects were also nominated to represent Asia Pacific to compete with the winning projects from other regions for the international award later this year.
Ian Milne, Atkins’ design director for Landmark 81, represented Atkins at the award ceremony in Bangkok. He said: “The International Property Awards celebrate the highest levels of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry.
As the architect for the Landmark 81 and Vinhome Metropolis, it is a tremendous recognition to Atkins’ capability in creating architectural icons that define the identity of cities.”
