Global alternative asset manager and CBI member The Carlyle Group recently announced that it has raised 3.2 billion yuan ($495 million) for its projected five billion yuan China fund, known as Beijing Carlyle Investment Center L.P.
Launched last year, the fund has now become the first foreign fund to be registered with China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's top economic planner.
The registration opens the fund to a wider pool of investors.

Yang, Managing Director of The Carlyle Group and Co-head of Carlyle Asia Partners, said, "Registration at the NDRC is a recognition of Carlyle's brand, financial stability and localized operation. We expect that it will help us to strengthen our cooperation with large enterprises and institutional investors like the social security funds, and deepen and extend our fund-raising and investing capabilities in China."

The Delegation of the European Union in China has very kindly prepared a full English translation of China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).
In mid-March 2011, the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, approved the new Five-Year Plan (FYP).

This week China Direct welcomes its Director General, Richard Lambert, to China.
Arriving earlier today Richard accompanied the UK Chancellor and senior executives of the UK's financial services sector on high level meetings with SAFE, People's Bank of China and Vice Premier Wang Qishan.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, the UK Prime Minister and main business delegation, consisting of more than fifty top businesses and institutions, will arrive in Beijing.
Richard and the CBI team will continue to support CBI members throughout a busy day of engagements with senior Chinese officials culminating in the UK-China Political Summit at the Hall of the People in Central Beijing.
CBI member and international architecture firm Benoy, winner of the 2009 British Business Award for Company of the Year, announced several new and important contracts in China today. Benoy will also be establishing an office in Beijing's Wangfujing district shortly.
