A new hydrogen ecosystem is emerging in China, and the country will continue to attract significant foreign direct investment in the space, say Franc Kaiser and Charles Wang.
China’s industrial and consumer hydrogen markets are growing rapidly, but the country is still too dependent on ‘grey’ hydrogen rather than green hydrogen.
Hydrogen is already being adopted as fuel for commercial vehicles in China, unlike other countries where the focus is on passenger vehicles.
A new hydrogen ecosystem is emerging with some players leaping straight from being suppliers of internal combustion engine vehicles to suppliers of hydrogen vehicles, bypassing lithium-ion battery technologies.
Cost of hydrogen production set to fall as more solar and wind power is applied for electricity generation.
China will continue to attract significant foreign direct investment in its hydrogen market.
