Great Festival of Creativity Shanghai 02-04 March - Outline Programme

 

 

Please find the latest details of the Creativity Festival's programme scheduled for 02-04 March.

• The Festival will be based at Shanghai’s Long Museum.
• There will be a virtual reality experience from Framestore, creators of Gravity
• The National Theatre’s life-size puppet horse Joey, from War Horse, will be on display and highlight the partnership between both countries’ National Theatres
• HSBC will offer a ‘dedicated zone to support human ambition and business creativity, featuring Business Surgeries for those looking to take their business further”. HSBC will also offer an ‘Ideas Exchange’ that will pair leading businesspeople (including Sir Martin Sorrell) together to share their ideas
• JLR will demonstrate how computer-aided design technology sits alongside traditional clay-modelling skills to design their vehicles
• PwC will offer digital masterclasses and a session for companies to test the ‘digital fitness’ of their own organisation
• De Montfort University will put its courses on display by offering interactive live footwear and clothes design demonstrations, a virtual walk-through of Medieval London, and insights into its health sector research
• BBC Worldwide will show visitors the UK technology used to make wildlife documentaries as well as BBC Earth hit series such as Penguins—Spy in the Huddle and Dolphins—Spy in the Pod
• The BFI will present archive film footage of life in China in the early 20^th century
• BA and VisitBritain will host a ‘best of British’ garden party
• There will be the first viewing of ‘GREAT Creations’, a special exhibition bringing the variety of UK creativity to life—some of the features will include an unseen collection of the Queen, a model of No. 10 front door, a unique GREAT Mulberry handbag, a bespoke ‘GREAT Britain’ engraved handcrafted watch, etc.
• Exhibition of images collected from British families with historical connections to China
• Live showcase of bespoke tailoring

7th EU Film Festival in China to open in Nov 2014

7^th E.U. Film Festival in China to open in Beijing and online in November 2014

 

                         

The 7^th E.U. Film Festival in China will bring the finest and freshest European cinema to China once again, beginning on 02 November. Organised by the E.U. Delegation to China, this year’s selection boasts nearly 20 titles from over 15 E.U. Member States.

The line-up ranges from features to shorts and from documentary to animation. Films will be screened at the Cervantes Institute (02-07 November), the Institut Français (08-15 November), the Italian Cultural Institute, the Embassy of Poland, and other venues (16-23 November). For those unable to make the screenings in Beijing, the films can be viewed as part of the E.U. Online Film Festival, organised in cooperation with LeTV, on the website www.euoff.org (02 November 2014 through 02 February 2015).

CBBC marks opening of new British Centres around China

 

 

Lord Sassoon, Chairman of the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), marked the opening of new British Centres around China at special receptions in Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu. CBBC also opened new or renovated British Centres in Guangzhou and Hangzhou this year. The reception in Shanghai, which also celebrated CBBC’s 60^th anniversary, was attended by over 120 guests, including members of the CBBC board, senior British and Chinese business representatives, and local government officials.

UKTI South West and CBBC organise delegation for ‘new to China’ companies

The GREAT British Brands Festival took place over 18 days from 25 September to 13 October 2014. Having premiered in Beijing in 2013, the Festival has now moved to explore opportunities in Guangzhou. A delegation for ‘new to China’ companies was organised by U.K. Trade and Investment (UKTI) South West and the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC). Thousands of Chinese consumers were introduced to some of the South West’s finest products at one of China’s biggest British fairs.

GREAT British Online Film Festival to be launched in China in October

 

 

The British Embassy, VisitBritain, and Virgin Atlantic Airways have teamed up to launch the inaugural GREAT British Online Film Festival.

The festival will bring an array of over 50 top British features and short films to netizens across China via video portal LeTV.

The films will be available to view through filmisgreat.cn from 09 October to 12 December 2014. The festival intends to showcase the best of British film, including a range of films that have previously been unavailable for release in China.

The line-up includes 36 features curated by the British Film Institute and 20 short films programmed by ShortsTV.

The festival will be officially launched on 08 October at the Residence of British Ambassador Sir Sebastian Wood, followed by a week of film industry events in cities across China.

BFI reveals that British Film now 8% of China Market and growing

 

CBI member The British Film Institute (BFI) recently released its 2014 BFI Statistical Yearbook, which shows that U.K. film is a leading player in a highly competitive global industry, with a U.K. industry turnover of £7.3 billion, an 11% share of the global box office, U.K. box office receipts in excess of £1 billion for the third successive year, and over £1 billion of production spend at home on new films shooting in the U.K.

For the first time, the Yearbook was able to look at the performance of British films in China, where U.K. films earned US$266 million and held 8% of the market.

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Inward Investment Report 2013/14

 

U.K.Trade & Investment (UKTI) recently released its Inward Investment Report 2013/14.

Highlights include:

• During the 2013/14 financial year, the U.K. attracted the most inward investment projects since records began in the 1980s.

• In total, 1,773 investment projects were set up by foreign businesses, up 14% on last year.

• These projects are estimated to bring with them over 111,000 new ans safeguarded jobs.

• The leading industry group for both projects and jobs was advanced manufacturing.

British Film Institute's A Century of Chinese Cinema continues from August 2014 at BFI Southbank

 

CBI member The British Film Institute (BFI) recently released the programme for its landmark A Century of Chinese Cinema season from August to October 2014 at BFI Southbank.

The New Waves programme in August showcases films made from 1980 to 1994 when Chinese cinema dominated the international arthouse scene.

The New Directions programme from September to 08 October will celebrate the work made by contemporary filmmakers.

As part of the BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN), there will be a touring Century of Chinese Cinema highlights programme showing films supplied by the BFI and China Print Archive at selected U.K. venues from July to October. Participating venues include Watershed Bristol (July), Glasgow Film Theatre (July and August), Showroom Sheffield and Chapter Cardiff (both in September), and Queens Film Theatre Belfast (October).
