China Direct is delighted to share with its members the very latest findings from the 2010 UK-China Business Climate Survey. Many CBI companies contributed to this survey for which our grateful thanks.
Published on the eve of a busy 3 days for the UK in China (culminating in a UK-China Business Summit on Wed 10 Nov in Beijing) the survey of 146 UK companies revealed that:
- 84% were positive about China's economic outlook for 2011
- 77% anticipate increased revenues in 2011
- 68% will increase local staff numbers in 2011
- 59% expect to increase their R&D investments in 2011
Some key issues affecting business performance include:
- Retention and availability of key/highly skilled personnel
- Transparency of local regulations
- Regulatory environment
The top 3 issues of concern for UK business are:
- Pollution & Environment
- Bureaucracy
- Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
3 areas for optimism are:
- Infrastructure improvement (e.g. transportation - high speed rail)
- Communications network
- English language ability of local staff
