BRIAN MCBRIDE ELECTED AS CBI PRESIDENT
Brian McBride has been elected as the new CBI President at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held earlier today (28 June 2022). Lord Karan Bilimoria, the outgoing President, has been elected as the organisation’s Vice-President.
Brian McBride was appointed by an overwhelming majority of CBI members.
Brian is one of the country’s leading business leaders, with an extensive career in digital and tech industries. Born in Glasgow, he worked for Xerox and IBM before running Dell’s operations in the UK and Northern Europe. As Managing Director of T-Mobile, he introduced 3G in the UK, before becoming the UK CEO of Amazon, where he launched its UK operations.
Following his time at Amazon, Brian has taken on multiple portfolio roles, including as Chair of ASOS and most recently Trainline PLC, as well as being on the Board of the BBC, Abrdn PLC and is currently the Lead Non-Executive Director on the Board of the UK Ministry of Defence.
Previously, Brian has held the position of Senior Adviser to Lazard’s Global Financial Advisory business and Scottish Equity Partners – making him a leading authority on the challenges small companies face when raising capital.

All CBI members are invited to attend the AGM and vote on the resolutions presented. This year’s AGM was held virtually, with 120 members attending. Brian McBride was appointed with 99% of the votes passed in favour.
The CBI President usually stands for a total of two, one-year terms (elected at each year’s AGM) with a third term being possible.
Lord Karan Bilimoria CBE, DL was elected as CBI President on 16 June 2020 and has now served two, one-year terms. Historically, at the AGM, the current CBI Vice-President has proceeded to stand for election to the role of CBI President and the outgoing President has stood for a final one-year term as Vice-President. It is a practice replicated across the UK within the CBI’s Regional and National Council structure to ensure good governance and continuity.
Lord Karan Bilimoria has been appointed with 99% votes passed in favour as CBI Vice-President for one, one-year term.
