CBI member, Lego announced on China’s ‘Children’s Day’ (last Friday) that it has partnered with the Jack Ma Foundation to launch a three-year partnership focussed on empowering rural education through play.
Lego will work with the Jack Ma Foundation to set up activity centres in rural schools across China to provide children with greater opportunity to study history, science and arts programmes. Lego will donate products and training at each of these centres. It is anticipated that the programme will reach ten provinces and autonomous regions over the next three years and will benefit over 30,000 students and 300 teachers.
Since 2018, Lego has donated more than 20,000 sets to various non-profits, NGOs and community action groups in China to provide learning through play opportunities for children in need. Katherine Kirk Muff, vice-president of social responsibility and engagement at Lego said: “[Lego’s] mission is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. In the coming years, we will focus on providing access to quality learning through play to children in need. [Lego’s] partnership with the Jack Ma Foundation will ground our committeemen to benefit rural children in need and empower them with lifelong skills for the future their development through high-quality learning experiences.”
Lego is establishing strong philanthropic credentials in China; the company has already helped some 300,000 children across the Mainland.
