CBI member Rolls-Royce recently announced a US$28 million contract to supply PetroChina with equipment and services to expand the flow of natural gas through the Lunnan-Tulufan branch of the second West to East Pipeline Project (WEPP II).
The Lunnan-Tulufan pipeline branch transports 17 billion cubic metres of gas per year and connects Lines I and II of WEPP that links China's western Xinjiang region to Fujian province in the southeast. In total, WEPP transports up to 47 billion cubic metres of gas per year.
Rolls-Royce will supply PetroChina with an additional two RB211 gas turbine driven pipeline compressor units, bringing the total number of RB211 units sold for installation on China and Central Asia's vast natural gas pipeline network to 70.
Rolls-Royce, which has provided equipment to WEPP since 2004, will manufacture and package the equipment at its energy facilities in Montreal and Mount Vernon in Ohio.
Andrew Heath, Rolls-Royce, President, Energy, said, "Rolls-Royce continues to expand its presence in China, providing vital equipment to help spur economic growth in China's fast-developing cities and support the drive towards cleaner, greener energy consumption."
Patrick Horgan, Rolls-Royce Regional Director, Northeast Asia, said, "2013 marks the 50th anniversary of Rolls-Royce in China. We look forward to expanding our China presence in the years ahead, strengthening customer and supplier relationships across the civil aerospace, marine, energy, and civil nuclear markets that we serve. I am particularly pleased to conclude this anniversary year with another contract from PetroChina, one of our long-term customers in the country."
