Leading consumer goods company and CBI member Unilever aims to dramatically expand its China business in the years ahead.
According to Harish Manwani, Unilever's chief economist for Asia, "Our business has been growing steadily about 18 percent to 19 percent per annum. Our commitment in China is to build a business four- or fivefold," what it is now. Mr. Manwani did not give a timetable for the planned expansion.
As sales remain stagnant in Unilever's established markets in the U.S. and Europe, the British-Dutch conglomerate is increasingly turning to developing economies to drive growth. Emerging markets now account for more than 55% of Unilever's business.
