The CBI attended the inaugural "UK In Jiangxi" mission to Nanchang, provincial capital of Jiangxi province, over 06-07 July.
This marked the formal hand over of consular jurisdiction from Beijing to Guangzhou and was attended by both HMA Sir William Ehrman KCMG and Guangzhou Consul General Brian Davidson.
In addition to calls made on the Jiangxi Governor and Mayor of Nanchang the UK attendees had direct access to Jiangxi provincial and municipal authorities.
The latter are particularly keen to find commercial partners and specialist expertise for a range of water supply and sewage treatment projects to be launched this year.
Additionally there are two expansion projects out for tender at Nanchang (Changbei) and Jingdezhen airports.
Standard Chartered Bank opened its first branch in the city centre in late 2008 and both the Universities of Dundee and West of England have established strong academic and commercial ties with Nanchang University in the fields of student exchange and forensic science.
The Carbon Trust will also be visiting the city later this month in order to work on carbon alleviation projects.
I identified 21 UK companies with existing investments in Jiangxi and see good opportunities for businesses in the high end engineering, environmental consulting, water, tourism and avionics sectors.
